Format references and check citations
Format references in APA 7, MLA 9, Chicago author-date or IEEE from the details you enter, and check in-text citations against your reference list.
- Choose the referencing style and the type of source.
- Enter the details from the source itself: authors one per line, year, title, journal or publisher, volume, pages, DOI or URL.
- Press Add reference. Any detail the style needs but you left empty is listed; it is never filled in.
- Your reference list is sorted for the style. Copy each in-text citation or the whole list.
- In Check citations, paste your text and reference list to find citations without a reference, uncited references and duplicates.
Your reference list appears here, formatted and sorted for the style, with each in-text citation.
Check citations against a reference list
Citations with no matching reference, references you never cite, duplicates and entries that couldn't be read appear here.
